Mental Health refers to one's psychological, cognitive, behavioral, emotional and social well-being. Below are some helpful mental health terms to know and their meaning.

Mental Health Promotion
  • Intervening to optimize positive mental health by addressing determinants of positive mental health before a problem is identified
  • Enhancing an individual's ability to achieve developmentally appropriate tasks
  • Encourage and increase protective factors and healthy behaviors that can help prevent the onset of a diagnosable mental disorder and reduce risk factors that can lead to the development of a mental disorder
Mental Health Prevention
  • Intervening to minimize mental health problems by addressing determinants of mental health problems before a problem is identified
  • Minimizing the impact of risk factors
  • Modifying risk exposure and strengthening coping mechanisms of the individual
